Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are medical research studies in which people participate as volunteers. By participating in clinical trials, volunteers help physicians develop improved treatments for diseases and in the process are sometimes able to try promising new drugs long before they are available in the marketplace. These trials are conducted according to the strict guidelines of the Food and Drug Administration.

Our patients' rights and safety are protected in two important ways:

  • We obtain approval to conduct our studies from an institutional review board. The review board, usually composed of physicians and lay people, has examined the clinical trial protocol to ensure that our patients' rights are protected and that the study does not present an undue or unnecessary risk to the patient.
  • Anyone participating in a clinical trial in the United States is required to sign an informed consent form. This form details the nature of the study and the risks involved. The informed consent tells patients that they have a right to discontinue the study at any time.

The Margolin Brain Institute has been conducting clinical research on neurological and psychiatric disorders with special emphasis on Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease since April of 2000. If you experience symptoms of memory loss, Parkinson's disease, or someone you know does, you may qualify to participate in one of our clinical trials.
